What computing resources are available for the public?
Public computer terminals are available throughout the building. Most provide access to information resources, including the online catalog, article databases, and the world wide web. In addition, there is a cluster of public computers at the east end of the first floor. These computers provide access to the web, email, and several other software packages including Microsoft Office. In addition, there is and Engineering Workstation Lab in the basement available to Engineering students.
What is the Engineering Workstation Lab?
The Engineering Workstation Lab is a computer lab supported by the College of Engineering and accessible to all engineering students. There are several locations throughout campus, including one in the basement of Grainger. For more information on EWS resources and policies, visit their webpage.
Can I use the Engineering Workstation Lab if I'm not an Engineering student?
Access to Engineering Workstation Lab computers is limited to engineering students, and non-engineering students taking courses in the College of Engineering.
Can I install software on machines at Grainger?
We ask that Grainger patrons do not install software on any computer in the building.
Is FirstClass available at Grainger?
FirstClass, the networking software used by the College of Commerce and Business Administration, is not available at Grainger. It is available at CITES sites, with the closest locations in Everitt Lab and the Illini Union.
Can I register for classes at Grainger?
The cluster of public computers at the east end of the first floor have UI Direct, the class registration software, installed on them.
Who do I talk to about hardware/software problems?
Report any hardware or software problems on Grainger computers to a reference librarian, or a staff member at the circulation desk. They might not be able to fix the problem, but they will be able to find someone who can.
Is the Digital Imaging Lab available to the public?
The Digital Imaging Lab, on the lower level of Grainger, is not open to the public.
